Therapy for postpartum depression and anxiety, mothers and pregnant people in Brooklyn, NY

Postpartum and perinatal therapy in New York City to help you feel more in control, less anxious, and more like yourself.

Great to meet you!

I’m Robin Selig, a Brooklyn-based therapist specializing in supporting mothers, parents, and families through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. I’m inspired to do this work because I know how often the emotional needs of mothers and birthing people are brushed aside or minimized. How often have you been told something to the effect of, ‘what do you expect now that you’re a mother?’ This type of feedback often impacts why so many people experiencing challenges in the postpartum period, including depression and anxiety, suffer in silence instead of reaching out for help.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve helped parents through some of the hardest moments of their lives including postpartum depression and anxiety, grief, and trauma. My style is warm, collaborative, and often very funny. Being a parent is many things; sometimes it’s joyfrul and sometimes it’s devastating. I believe that we have to laugh whenever we can. I’ll probably also give you a pop cultural example of what you’re going through, or tell you about a tiktok video or instagram post I saw that helps make sense of what is happening. Together, we will give you a space where you can cry, laugh, and find yourself again.

What’s important to me is that you feel seen, understood and supported, and that you leave feeling a little better each time we meet. In our first sessions I ask a lot of questions to get to know you and we will work together to make a plan for you to get the most out of therapy. I'm interested in understanding you as a whole person and the context that you live. You are a mother, but there are so many other parts of you! So often mother’s feel like they lose a part of themselves in their journey into motherhood, and part of my work is helping you find yourself again.

Specializing in:

  • Pregnancy can be an exciting yet overwhelming journey, filled with a whirlwind of physical and emotional changes. Together, we'll explore ways to manage stress, alleviate anxiety, and strengthen your sense of confidence as you prepare for your baby’s arrival. Whether you're seeking support with navigating pregnancy-related changes or processing fears about labor, I am here to provide a safe space for you to talk through everything you're experiencing.

  • The postpartum period can be one of profound change, and it's important to take care of both your physical and mental health as you adjust to life with a new baby. Postpartum depression and anxiety can impact anyone and it is the most under diagnosed obstetric complication in America. You may be experiencing sadness and anxiety that is getting in the way of the joy you had imagined you were going to feel in this part of your life. You may be trying to find your rhythm as a mother while simeltaneously trying to wrap your head around the idea that your life has changed in such a fundamental way. Together we will help you feel more in control, less depressed and anxious, help you to enjoy more of your motherhood and pregnancy journey and help you find yourself again.

  • Being a mother is an incredible journey, but it can also leave you feeling stretched thin. It’s common for mothers to feel like they have little time for themselves. Together, we’ll work on building healthy boundaries, improving self-care routines, and addressing any feelings of guilt or burnout. You are really busy and probably trying to figure out how you can even make time to even start therapy! Let’s find some time for you, because working together we can really help you feel better!
