THERAPY FOR BIRTH TRAUMA

Perinatal therapy in Brooklyn, NY

Calm ocean representing birth trauma therapy in Brooklyn NY.

You went through something no one should have to face alone.

WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU DURING YOUR BIRTH WAS NOT OKAY.

If your birth didn't go the way you hoped, if there was trauma, fear, or moments that haunt you you might be struggling with something really hard. You have your baby and you may even feel guilty for struggling when the outcome was "good." But a healthy baby and a traumatic birth are not mutually exclusive. You can love your child deeply and still struggle with reconciling what happened to your body, your autonomy, or your sense of safety.

Well meaning people might be giving you some “at leasts.” "At least the baby is healthy." "At least you didn't need a C-section." "At least you have a beautiful baby." These comments dismiss what happened to you—as if your experience only matters in relation to the baby, not as something that happened to your body and your mind.

The truth is, birth trauma is real, and it deserves to be treated as such. What happened to you matters.

Soft focus of water on the horizon supporting perinatal mental health in Greenpoint Brooklyn

Sound like you?

You replay moments from the birth over and over, wishing they'd gone differently, or feeling like your body failed you.

You love your baby, but you hated what happened to you during birth and you're trying to wrap your head around how both of those things can be true at once.

You feel disconnected from your body, or angry at it, or like it betrayed you when you needed it most.

The idea of another pregnancy or birth feels impossible, not because you don't want a family, but because you can't imagine going through that again.

Here’s what we’ll do together

Therapy can help you process what happened and begin to enjoy motherhood.

I'm Robin Selig, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and PMH-C (Certified in Perinatal Mental Health) based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn providing telehealth mental health treatment. I work with people navigating birth trauma, helping them feel less alone and more grounded.

Together we'll use CBT techniques to address intrusive thoughts, self-blame, and the replay loops that keep you stuck. We'll work through the trauma on your terms at a pace that feels good to you. And I'll help you find ways to take care of yourself in the hard moments, especially when it feels like no one else understands.

This isn't about just "getting over it.” It's about honoring what you went through so it doesn't weigh quite so heavily. Together, we'll identify how this trauma impacts your daily life and equip you with real-world strategies to manage it, so you can finally reclaim your peace and enjoy motherhood.

At the end of the day, I want you to know:

You are allowed to love your baby and hate what happened to you. Both things can be true.

What we’ll work on

Imagine a life where…

  • You have tools to care for yourself when trauma shows up unexpectedly

  • Your daily reality feels manageable, grounded, and genuinely yours again.

  • You can think about your body without anger or betrayal, even if trust takes time to rebuild

  • The idea of future medical care, or another pregnancy feels manageable, not terrifying
